How to Become a Clan Teacher

What is a Clan Teacher?

A Clan Teacher is a working mentor within the Guild. They sacrifice their personal time to ensure that the principles of our Charter and our Guild are being taught, learned, and honored. They should be prime examples, not only to eyes within the guild but outside, of what it means to be a Barbarian.

This is not saying that as branding themselves a CT, they have no time for themselves. Not every action must be for the Guild; not every hunt must include other Guild Members. They, too, have personal lives and need to grow and learn from the course of their lives. But, to wear the title and feel the esteem of being a CT, they do need to put effort into the program to deserve this glory.

A Clan Teacher usually is one who comes from a background of experience and knowledge. Because of this, other barbarians for their advanced capabilities and their willingness to devote one’s life to the guild often revere them. The lifestyle is, at times, enduring but always rewarding. A Clan Teacher must always be on their toes for they are always facing new challenges. Those who excel in the program find themselves in a bounty of friendship and honor. It is those that prove themselves above others that will become the future leaders of our guild.

What are the duties of a CT?

Clan Teachers are promoters and nurturers of what it is to be a Barbarian and not just a member of the Barbarians' Guild. To do this, they must realize that all of their actions are being watched and all of their words are being heard at all times.

As a group of people, we have many different paths laid out before each of us. As Clan Teachers, it isn't our place to judge or dictate which paths others should walk. Clan Teachers are here, and have volunteered, to share their experiences, offer their wisdom, and answer questions as best they know how. Perhaps, with their words and actions, they will inspire and open up new paths that others never considered or dreamed possible for them.

Clan Teachers will all have different teaching methods, simply because they are their own person. There will be little structure on the ways of being a Clan Teacher. Of course, advice will be readily available by the Guild Officer and some classes may be offered, but each Clan Teacher should bring their unique perspective into what makes them a Barbarian into their lessons. Not every Clan Teacher is expected to welcome their new student with a hug and a smile. Not every Clan Teacher will be successful with the same protégé. Certain personalities may end up clashing with another, so don't look upon it as a character flaw. Experienced Clan Teachers will develop multiple tactics to counteract with the onslaught of different personalities one may face in their long career. Remember, there will always be aid near by. This isn't a program to force people into a set mold. This isn't a program to force people to become friends, although that's a good added bonus. It is a program to show that all types of views and paths in life can mesh and prosper within our Guild Hall.

All that being said, being a Clan Teacher is so much more than being the person that simply pointed the new Guild Member towards the Charter and perhaps forged an axe or a set of armor. They must strive to bring in the Guild Member's strengths and weakness together to forge a bond like no other. Clan Teachers should strive to be a friend or a father to their prospects. The bond could be life enduring and full of rewards. They must speak our History, our triumphs, and our failures with pride. They must offer respect to all Members, whether it's directly returned or not. In short, they must rise above and unite us as a clan of people. We are the elite and play one of the largest roles in helping to shape the future of our guild. We must not ever forget our task while making sure our lives are full of excitement and fulfillment. (Not everyone is expected to provide Guild Event ideas, but all will be expected to contribute to them in one form or another at some point.)

How do I know I'm ready to be a Clan Teacher?

It is one thing to be sure of one's self as an individual and another to feel you're ready to share yourself as an example to others. Simple time within the Guild may not be enough. Ask yourself some tough questions. What is a Barbarian to you? Can you lead your life; the entire time you wear the CT title, as a direct reflection of your Guild as a whole? Do you have pride, not only in yourself, but also in the fact that you're a Barbarian? Do you enjoy acting as a guide and helping people in their growth? Can you uphold the ideals of our ancestors?

Think back to the person that shone in your eyes when you were growing up within the Guild. Use that inspiration and be ready to devote yourself to inspire others. Clan Teachers strive for excellence in themselves and those around them. They must be ready to push without seeming pushy, to listen when someone needs an ear, to know when to sit back and relax with the Guild and enjoy the moment, and when and how to spark the fire to get the Guild bonded as a united people. It should also be noted that in offering your services as a Clan Teacher, you are willing to have open communication with the other CTs. This may include time for meetings, scroll writing (posts and emails), and possibly event planning and/or leading.

As far as basic requirements, you must have Weaponsmithing to Outstanding and be at least the age of 21(IC). Importantly, those who wish to be Clan Teachers, should be in good standing within the guild, and have never been put on probation by the guild.

I think I'm ready. How do I join?

To become a Clan Teacher, you must contact a Guild Officer. They will be able to assist you in whatever interview or questing that may be required for this task. Make sure you have prepared yourself ahead of time. Get to know your family, get in contact with other mentors and Officers among you. Reacquaint yourself with the guild charter. Live by it; study it as best you can. We are few and proud. Any further questions that come up should be directed to a Guild Officer..

Notes from the past Senior Clan Teachers.

As it has been stated within this very document. As being a Clan Teacher, you are always being watched, you are being looked up to, and your words are being hung onto. In the eyes of your peers in the guild, and those outside, as a Clan Teacher you are a representation of what a Barbarian should be. Something that will not be tolerated from Clan Teachers is abusing your position, using your position for betterment of yourself. As a Clan Teacher, you should not be selfish and thinking of yourself that is not why you volunteered, for the position. Also, as a Clan Teacher, the Guild’s Charter should be your life, you of all people should be upholding it, and living by it word for word. Others should be too, and they should be reminded of it as well. Any Clan Teacher being found using this as a position of power, a betterment of one self, or violating the Guild’s Charter (Note: Breaking the Guild’s Charter has its own penalties as well), will be removed as a Clan Teacher and be denied returning to such a position. This is your only warning.
